The Hebridean islands of Islay and Jura on Scotland's west coast are home to some of the purest single malt whiskies.
The Smithy holiday cottage is in the heart of the village of Bruichladdich, looking Loch Indaal with views of the Paps of Jura.
Visiting any one of the nine distilleries could not be easier - the local bus connections link the whole island two or three times a day. This allows you to visit all of the distilleries without the use of a car.
There are no bus stops near Bunnahabhain, Kilchoman or Caol Ila but the bus stops at the road end.
You can walk to Bruichladdich distillery and on the way back you will pass the Bruichladdich village bus stop.
Of course there are also local taxi services available, both by land and sea.
A rigid inflatable boat service can take you to the distilleries using the old puffer coastal routes.
There is also bicycle hire at Port Charlotte village - Phone Polly and Dan Mather on 01496 850488
